Message from American Turkish Community in Houston:

Dear Community/Faith Leaders and Members/Civic Leaders, City and State Officials,

We, as the American Turkish community, invite you to join us, members and other leaders from our community, to a Prayer Vigil and Press Conference on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 11:00 am to recognize and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives in this tragic and heartbreaking incident on Tuesday June 28, 2016 in Istanbul Turkey. It is time to show our solidarity.

On Tuesday June 28, 2016, the third largest airport in Europe, Istanbul Ataturk Airport, was the target of a heinous terrorist attack that claimed at least 38 innocent lives and left 239 injured, 41 of which in intensive care. As with the rest of the world, we bare witness to this mournful attack that have hit our homeland, with a heavy heart and believe we must gather together to reflect and remember the innocent lives that were lost. We must stand united to resolve the issue of terrorism in order to safeguard our liberties and countries.

Raindrop Foundation Strongly Condemns Terror Attacks In Turkey

We strongly condemn terrorist act in Turkey.Three suicide bombers strike Istanbul Ataturk airport. 36 killed and 80 wounded.Our prayers with the victims of this horrific attack and their families and friends. 

Police reportedly believe Isil was behind attack. Officers shot at suspects in international arrivals hall. Fourth suicide bombing in Turkey this year.Third busiest airport in Europe, high security location. Istanbul-Ataturk airport is the third busiest European airport, with 61.8 million passengers in total in 2015.

Iftar dinner for the Turkish American Community

turk iftar 10Raindrop Foundation hosted an iftar dinner for the Turkish American Community in Houston on Friday, June 17th at the Marriott Hotel. The intention of gathering at the event was to unite the Turkish American public pursuing the theme of “ Gelin Birlik Olalim”. The program started with the choir singing of U.S. national anthem and national anthem of Turkey. The choir named as “Houston’s roses” is consisted of Turkish American elementary school children who attend the kids club at Raindrop Youth development center. After the raindrop foundation’s introduction movie, Ruhi Ozgel, chairman of Raindrop Foundation board welcomed the guests with welcoming remarks.

Annual Neighborhood Iftar dinner

neighborhood iftar 3Annual Neighborhood Iftar dinner was held at Raindrop Turkish House on June 18th, Saturday.  “Living together” was the theme of this year’s gathering.  An amazing diverse group includes 300 people from all over the world was there including US Congressman, Texas State Representative, Gene Wu, Al Green city Houston Council member, Mike Laster, and Fortbend ISD Board member KP George.  

The programs started with welcome remark by Filiz Camuz, E.D. of  RAWA Houston  and Mahmut Gok, ED. of  Embrace  Relief  Foundation SW.  Keynote speech was given by Dr. Dogan Koc, Executive Director of Gulen Institute at University of Houston.   “Living together is an art of living together with your family, with your neighbors, with people in your city, nation and finally living together with the whole world in a harmony and peace” said Dr. Koc in speech.
