The Raindrop Foundation and Embrace Relief’s Food Donation to the Houston Food Bank

IMG 0497.JPGOn Friday, November 21, 2014, the Raindrop Foundation joined together with the Embrace Relief Organization to help donate food to the Houston Food Bank, which distributes 50 million nutritious meals each year. This is enough to provide more than 100,000 meals a day. According to the Houston Food Bank’s website, on a typical day in the 18 southeast Texas counties served by the food bank, 66,200 people cannot afford to purchase food for themselves and are forced in hunger.

2014 Annual Early Thanksgiving Dinner

thanks7On Thursday, November 20, 2014, the Raindrop Foundation hosted its annual Early Thanksgiving Dinner, which is held in observance of Citizenship Month for Houston. The purpose of Citizenship Month for Houston is to celebrate Houston’s civic diversity. The program was coordinated in collaboration with the Glenshire Community Association, Brays Oaks Management District, Dialog Institute of the Southwest, Citizenship Month Committee, Office of International Communities, and the Houston Food Bank. Christine Dobbyn from ABC 13 local news was present as the honorary mistress of ceremonies for the dinner.

2014 Texas Conference for Women

IMG 07862014 Texas Conference for Women was one of the most outstanding events that we have ever attended as Raindrop Turkish House. There was something for every woman, no matter what age, education level, lifestyle they had. It was a day full of positive energy swinging in the air all day long.

At our booth, we introduced Raindrop Women’s Association and its programs to 6000+ attendees.

There were two artists at our booth to perform their art. Diler Bilgin, Turkish Calligraphy artist, who lives in Austin drew people’s names on the RAWA Book Club bookmarks to make it personalized for attendees.

The Raindrop Foundation and Embrace Relief Help Serve Lunch to the Families of the Ronald McDonald House Houston

On November 10, 2014, The Raindrop Foundation and Embrace Relief teamed up to help provide lunch to the families of the Houston area Ronald McDonald House. The mission of the Ronald McDonald House is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children. Upon being greeted by the very friendly staff, Raindrop Foundation and Embrace Relief began to set up the tables and serving area for the families to enjoy their meal. We were also welcomed by Colleen Dillahunty, the Family Activities Coordinator, who assisted us in the organization of the event.Once an announcement was made for the residents to head downstairs to have their lunch, we were able to serve and meet many of the children and families who call the Ronald McDonald House their home. After lunch, the children and staff were invited to participate in creating Ebru art, which is a traditional Turkish form of water marbling. Since this form of art was new to a lot of the participants, one of the members of Embrace Relief Organization was there to help guide them in creating their own unique Ebru painting.
