Relief delivered in Africa but more to be done!

Raindrop Helping Hands is happy to announce that your kind donations reached Africa to give those people suffering from drought and starvation a break.  During the campaign, $129,327.83 was raised with your kind and generous donations. We thank you for your donations. Raindrop Helping Hands volunteer, Yusuf went to Africa to deliver your donations to Somalian refugees on the border of Somalia and Kenya. He used about 48 thousand dollars of the raised amount to provide the people with food.

Dear Friends,

Ethiopian and Somalian children are dying from starvation and Raindrop Helping Hands invites you to support them. 

African people have been displaced because of the drought. There are more than 400,000 Somalian refugees staying in the Dadaab Camp near Kenya and the number is increasing.

Recently, Adrian Edwards, the Official Representative of the UN stated that the Dadaab Camp is the world's largest refugee camp.

The only hope of survival is the food and water

at refugee camps which is given to one of every four refugees who left their hometown. According to the UN report, two million children are undernourished and in order for them to survive very urgent support is needed.

As Turkish and Turkish-American community in US, we are saddened by tragedies caused by tornado outbreak and floods. We express our deepest condolences for the loss of lives. Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Donation Delivered at Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center

100_3095Raindrop Helping Hands and Houston-Istanbul Sister City Association launched a donation campaign for the massive Earthquake and Tsunami disaster that happened in Japan in March.  The amount that was collected through the Helping Hands account was delivered to the Acting Consul-General of Japan Mr. Takahiko Watabe and the Treasurer of Japanese American Citizens League Mr. Howard Lindsey. The check, which had an amount of over $22.000, was presented by Mr. Mehmet Okumus, president of Raindrop Turkish House and Mr. Ruhi Ozgel, president of Houston-Istanbul Sister City Association. The ceremony was held in Seljuks room of Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center.

Israel forest fire campaign donation was delivered to The Consul General of Israel in Houston

Mr. Shlomo had visited Istanbul Convention Center  today. The Check which has the total amount of $25.000, presented him by the President of Raindrop Turkish House, Mehmet Okumus. Japan Earthquake, Tsunami: Help Needed!

The biggest earthquake on record to hit Japan rocked the northeast coast on Friday, triggering a 10-meter tsunami that killed hundreds of people and swept away everything in its path, including houses, ships and cars. Our hearts and prays go to the families of the victims and we hope that they find the strength and the patience to go through this very difficult time.

Israel Needs Your Help: Forest Fire Devastates Northern Israel. We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the damage because of the forest fire in Israel. The fire lasted four days and is considered to be the worst in Israel’s history. At least 40 people were killed and dozen were injured as the deadliest forest fire in Israel’s history swept through the north of the country. The Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “ This is a disaster of unprecedented proportions.”

Raindrop Helping Hands launches a campaign that focuses on all aspects of the reforestation efforts, clean-up, upgrading equipment, and replanting trees that were destroyed in the fires. Please send us your generous donation so that we can deliver it to those who are in need. Funds collected through the Helping Hands' account will be delivered to the authorized people in the U.S. or through our sister organizations located in Turkey.

Donation was delivered to needy people from Burma

Mr. Halil Temiz, assistant director of Raindrop Turkish House went to Fort Wayne to deliver these donations to the newly arrived families from Burma. He stated that these people were really in need, and around 350 families received the donations. He also stated that these people said this is the largest amount of donation that they have ever received, and they were very thankful for these donations. Texans Planted Friendship Trees in Turkey

At a ceremony organized by Raindrop Helping Hands, Texans planted friendship trees at Texas-Antalya Friendship Commemorative Forest in Turkey

After last year’s forest fire in the province of Antalya, Raindrop Helping Hands started a donation campaign in Texas. Helping Hands found out that the Ottoman Sultan the Aldulhamid II sent 300 golden coins when he was informed that there was a devastating fire in the U.S. back in 1894 and shared this information with the locals in Texas. Helping Hands’ initiative met with very good reception, resulting in 2,000 tree donation in total.

TAWA and Make a Child Smile at Children's Medical Center

A total of $667.00 of donation collected by the leadership of TAWA has been delivered to Children's Medical Center in Dallas for Oncology Division.

Executives from Oncology Divison at Children's Medical Center expressed their gratitude to TAWA and Raindrop Helping Hands and said that they have been delivering the best care possible to children from all over North Texas. (April 15, 2009, Dallas, TX)

 

 
We express our deepest condolences to Pakistan people
pakistan_front.jpg Raindrop Helping Hands expresses its deepest condolences to the Pakistani people for the tragic loss of life and the devastation wrought by the earthquake on October 28. The earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 occured in the southwestern area of Pakistan and left 175 people dead and more than 10,000 people homeless. Our sympathy goes out to those families who have lost their loved ones. We stand by the victims and we support the government's good efforts to alleviate their sufferings and rebuild their livelihoods. (October 29, 2008, Houston, Texas)    
 
Raindrop Helping Hands aiding Ike victims

ike_32.jpgHoustonians need water and ice more than anything now... Many people still is without electricity... Clean potable water and ice for cooling the food are the essential supplies now. Today, Harris County announced 17 POD's (point of distribution) where people can get water, ice and some canned food.

We, as Raindrop Helping Hands, were at one of the biggest POD's, Harvest Time Church. Thanks to your contributions, we extended our hands as Turkish-American community to those in need. We delivered to the authorities one full truck-load of water and canned food. Our volunteers came from College Station area, all the way down to help.

Hurricane Ike Evacuation Update
Dear Houstonians, Hurricane Ike is moving towards Texas coast with strenthening on warm waters of Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane is expected to landfall along the central to upper Texas coast by as early as late Friday night as a Category 2 or Category 3 hurricane. Models are honing in on a landfall location from the Freeport-Lake Jackson area to Galveston, Texas. A strike in this portion of the Texas coast will provide dangerous, perhaps life-threatening impacts.

As a Raindrop Helping Hands we prepared ourselves to help you as we did in Katrina, Rita and Gustav Hurricanes.

Raindrop Helping Hands expresses its deepest condolences to the Burmese people for the loss of life and the devastation wrought by the Tropical Cyclone Nargis on early Saturday, May 3.

Cyclone Nargis, one of the world's deadliest storm, caused almost 15,000 people dead and hundreds of thousands of them without shelter and clean water.   Our sympathy goes out to those families who have lost loved ones.
