Turkish Coffee Night featured “Women’s Bone Health’’

JPG_11   The second Turkish Coffee Night of the fall season was held at the Raindrop Turkish House on Friday, November 18, 2011. MC of the program was Rhea Woodcock, Director of Student Ministries at the Southern Nazarene University, and volunteer of the Raindrop Turkish House. Raindrop representative, Ozlem Yasar welcomed the guests on behalf of the Raindrop.

The theme of the program was “Women’s Bone Health.” The program featured Dr. Sheila M. Algan M.D. as a keynote speaker. Dr. Sheila Algan is an Assistant Professor in the Orthopedic Surgery Department at the OU Health Science Center. She is specialty trained in Sports Medicine and helps take care of some local sports team (Oklahoma Christian University).  She was in private practice in Oregon for 5 years and in the Air Force as an orthopedic surgeon for 4 years. Her interests are women's musculoskeletal health, and injury prevention (especially in young athletes).

Raindrop Turkish House El Paso offered Thanksgiving Dinner

Raindrop Turkish House of El Paso organized Early Thanksgiving Dinner on November 22nd evening to El Paso community.

Early Thanksgiving Dinner was an opportunity for Turkish families and friends to share their insightful cares, delicious Thanksgiving dinner with pumpkin pies. It was an amazingly beautiful gathering of more than 70 people from different faith communities to share a meal and have a social conversation. Each table shared their cultural and faith perspectives regarding the how they were celebrating Thanksgiving.   

The event started with welcoming remarks by Riza Gurlek, director of Raindrop Turkish House. Every single guest made a short and brief prayer for gathering around Thanksgiving Dinner. Later on Hal Marcus, entrepreneurial artist of El Paso along the Rio Grande, gave  brief speech of his artistic thoughts of Thanksgiving within Raindrop Community and gave a present to President/CEO of Raindrop Turkish Houses. Mr. Okumus was pleased to join the event in El Paso and talked about how the community is beautified with such an events.

Raindrop Turkish House Corpus Christi Hosted Neighbors At Thanksgiving Dinner

For the first time in its first year of operation, Raindrop Turkish House Corpus Christi hosted an exciting Thanksgiving Dinner with family, friends and neighbors from all walks of life. The dinner was held on Friday, Nov 25th. Menu included many varieties of delicious Turkish food and side dishes beside traditional Turkey and pumpkin pie. After the dinner, guests were truly enjoyed both the dinner and the friendly conversations. Children also enjoyed playing in our special play room and they were also given little presents. The spirit of Thanksgiving was celebrated in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Over 70 guests including Andrew Card, Dean of Bush School, attended early thanksgiving dinner

thanksgiving_turkish3Raindrop Turkish House in collaboration with The Institute of Interfaith Dialog, held its first annual Thanksgiving Dinner on November 18th evening to a large number of people from College Station and Bryan cities.

The event started with welcoming remarks by Dr. Zeytuncu, IDD College Station/Bryan volunteer member. Then, Mr. Andrew Card, Acting Dean of the Bush School of Government and Public School at Texas A&M University, and his wife Mrs. Kathleen Card gave a brief speech regarding the history and importance of the Thanksgiving. Mr. Andrew Card took the lead in cutting the turkey to start the course for the dinner program.

Raindrop Turkish House participated to International Week and Cultural Show at Blinn College

Raindrop Turkish House participated to International Week and Cultural Show at Blinn College. Many unique Turkish handicrafts, as well as cultural items were displayed and paper marbling was demonstrated in Turkish stand. Professors and students were fascinated with paper marbling and learned a lot about Turkey.
