 We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the damage because of the Hurricane Sandy at the US East Coast. Hurricane Sandy that is the largest Atlantic hurricane on record is a tropical cyclone that severely affected Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States on October 29, 2012.The cyclone brought a destructive storm surge to US East Coast , flooding numerous streets, tunnels and subway and cutting off, especially Zone A areas near waterways which were issued evacuation orders. Severe damage occurred in New Jersey, especially in the communities along the Jersey Shore. According to the records, hurricane-force winded as high as 90 miles per hour (145 kph).

 Raindrop Turkish House organized a national night out event on October 2. The purpose of the event was to unite neighborhoods in an effort to reduce crime. Police department, neighbors and families from Turkish community with their children participated in the night out.

 Raindrop Turkish House organized a health fair for the community with the help of Congressman Al Green and Community Health Choice. Sponsors provided free screenings that include vision screening for children provided by Eye Care for Kids, blood pressure checks provided by Walgreens and Ibn Sina Foundation, dental screenings provided by UT School of Dentistry, glucose and blood pressure checks provided by Juno Research and PSA screening for men provided by Century Cancer Center.

 On April 14, 2012, The Institute of Interfaith Dialog and Raindrop Turkish House in Lenexa proudly hosted a lecture and book signing by acclaimed Turkish columnist and author Mustafa Akyol as part of their ongoing Distinguished Speaker Series. Mr. Akyol was touring across the U.S. promoting his latest book Islam without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty.
The evening began with a small gathering of distinguished guests at Raindrop Turkish House for a conversation with the author and a preview of his presentation. This discussion was followed by a light repast of Turkish cuisine. The party then repaired to the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center in Overland Park for the evening’s main program.
