First Annual Turkish Food and Children`s Fest was held in Memphis

P1030060Raindrop Turkish House in Memphis organized its First Annual Turkish Food and Children's Fest on April 21st, 2012. People from different areas of Memphis had a chance to experience Turkish culture in their own city. There were several stands including one that served Turkish Cuisine as well as Turkish tea and coffee. Guests were invited to experience cultural music, dance, and art. At the art stand, they had a chance to watch live demonstrations of Ebru (Turkish Water Marbling), Henna tattoo, and face painting.

The Commercial Appeal, the largest daily newspaper serving the Memphis Metro area, published a story about Turkish cuisine on April 25th, 2012. Christopher Blank, Art Writer for the paper, visited Raindrop Turkish House in Memphis and authored the following article.

Turkish blend: Center shares exotic, diverse flavors of cultural crossroads

The first time I encountered "Turkish Delight" (and this probably goes for most Americans) was while reading C.S. Lewis' essential novel for young readers, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."

In the story, the White Witch ensnares a young boy using a box of what I assumed to be candy. "Each piece was sweet and light to the very center," Lewis described. The child "had never tasted anything more delicious."

Years passed before I learned that Turkish Delight was real -- an exotic sugar-covered confection invented in the 1770s in Istanbul, with a flavored gelatinous center commonly mixed with chopped dates, pistachios and hazelnuts.

On a recent Friday evening, a large box of it was opened before my eyes. For a split second, my thoughts traveled to Narnia.

2nd Coffee Night at Raindrop Turkish House in Memphis

RD_2nd_Turkish_Coffee_Night_1Raindrop Turkish House Memphis held its 2nd Ladies Coffee Night on Saturday, March 31 at 06:00 pm. It was such a enjoyable and amazing night and started with a brief presentation about Turkey and Raindrop Turkish House. Then a main topic of night "Turkish Folk Dance" was introduced. The event continued with having Turkish Coffee and playing Kopuz which is ancient instument by Mrs. Uzuk Balliyeva. After tasting an authentic food and dessert all attendies performed a great dance. We thank all our companies for joinung us.

1st Cooking Class was held at Raindrop Turkish House in Memphis

rd_turkish_1st_cuisine_class_001Raindrop Turkish House in Memphis started its 1st Cuisine Class on Saturday, March 10, 2012. Participants were very interested in learning different and delicious recipes. Turkish Bulgur Wheat Salad (Kısır), Turkish Cheese Rolls and Baklava dessert were taught at the first lesson. At the end of class everyone tasted those food and dessert. The participants not only enhance their knowledge about the Turkish food but also have good relations with each other and make good friends.
