Raindrop Foundation and Embrace Relief Host the 2014 Share Your Holidays Food Drive

food 8On Friday, December 5th, 2014, the Raindrop Foundation and Embrace Relief had the opportunity to team up with ABC 13 local news station and the Houston Food Bank for their annual Share Your Holidays Food Drive. The purpose of the drive is to collect food donations for our neighbors who are currently living at or below the poverty line. With the prices of food and transportation rising, many families and individuals are finding it increasingly difficult to choose between putting food on the table and paying their rent/mortgage. Katherine Whaley from ABC 13 local news studio reported the event live from the Raindrop Foundation’s Turquoise Center, which was the designated food drop off location.

Marcy Williams, president of Brays Oaks Super Neighborhood #36, was also present at the food drive and gave warm remarks about community involvement and the joy of giving during the holiday season. Accompanying the food drive, there was delicious homemade Turkish cuisine prepared for the donors to purchase, in which all proceeds are donated to the Houston Food Bank. There was also an elegant demonstration of Ebru art, which is a traditional Turkish form of water marbling. During the food drive, we were able to fill four large boxes were with many different items which totaled to more than 300 pounds of food. This means that more than 250 meals can be prepared from the donated items! We enjoyed the pleasure of having many members of the community giving their time to come out and donate their food items. We would like to thank all of our volunteers and ABC 13’s Vice President of Community Affairs, Cynthia Cisneros, for allowing us to team up with them in their annual Share Your Holidays Food Drive. We would also like to thank the Houston Food Bank for their continued mission in the battle against hunger. Your donation will help make the holidays brighter for those most in need!
