Hurricane Sandy Victims Need Your Help Immediately

sandyhurricane1_1We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives and the damage because of the Hurricane Sandy at the US East Coast. Hurricane Sandy that is the largest Atlantic hurricane on record is a tropical cyclone that severely affected Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States on October 29, 2012.The cyclone brought a destructive storm surge to US East Coast , flooding numerous streets, tunnels and subway and cutting off, especially Zone A areas near waterways which were issued evacuation orders. Severe damage occurred in New Jersey, especially in the communities along the Jersey Shore. According to the records, hurricane-force winded as high as 90 miles per hour (145 kph).

1st Annual Turkish Food and Crafts Festival at Texas Tech University - April 20

Turkish Student Association (TSA), in collaboration with Raindrop Turkish House, organized the first annual Turkish Food and Crafts Festival in the free speech area between the SUB and the Library, on April 20. The festival which many different types of rich Turkish cuisine and crafts sold were very much appreciated by approximately 2000 visitors, including students, faculty and staff members from Tech and also people from the Lubbock community.

In the festival, there was a small sample from the authentic Turkish cuisine, such as cyro kabap(doner), Turkish pastries, stuffed vine leaves(sarma), Turkish ravioli(manti), cakes, desserts(baklawa) and more of those. In addition to the food, there was an art section which the amazing traditional Turkish art (water marbling) was demonstrated. Many of the attendees liked this wonderful painting on the water. In the gift shop section, they saw and bought different types of souveniers for themselves and their friends. More importantly, in the Ottoman tent, they enjoyed travelling in the history with Turkish ancestors. One of the volunteers represented a King, and his wife represented his wife (first lady), and they have more information about the Ottoman Empire, their lifestyles, and geographical locations.

Bridge between Civilizations: Trip to Turkey Information Session

IMG_7514Raindrop Turkish House in collaboration with Institute of Interfaith Dialog is organizing an educational trip to Turkey with Lubbock Christian University during the Spring Break. IID – Lubbock has informed LCU staff and Faculty member about the itinerary, places to visit on February 2, 2012. LCU group seemed very excited about trip to Turkey during the Spring Break. Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa and Canakkale are the cities that LCU will be visiting in Turkey. More is coming with the trip details!!!!

Noah's Pudding - A thousands Year Old Tradition

It was thousands of years ago that a community was again on the threshold of a catastrophe. This community had abandoned worshipping one God and started to commit all kinds of sins including adultery.

 The Prophet Noah called this community to the true way of believing in one God for 950 years, but they teased him and called him crazy. Later, even his wife joined the unbelievers in their betrayal. Noah suffered with his people for 800 years, but he remained sincere in his faith in the Lord. Then, one day, God sent the Angel Gabriel to Noah to warn about a coming flood and to order him to build a ship. Noah built the ship and God ordered him to take a couple from each of the creatures, all of the believers, and his family with the exception of his wife. Once again, Noah warned his people and told them about the flood, but they kept denying him.
